On October 23rd 2024 the Rotary Club of Scarsdale held their annual gala event.
The Rotary Club of Harlem went to the gala event to support their fellow Rotarians and to learn about the great work the Rotary Club of Scarsdale has been doing in the last year.
The food was great, the company greater. It was great seeing friends old and new. I was able to discuss a potential partnership with the Rotary Club of Scarsdale with Lisa Cohen relating to the environment and tree planting. Past District Loren Russell was passing out warm smiles and making introductions. I also had an opportunity to meet our current district Governor Syed Allrahi and his wife and invited them to our next club meeting on 11/12 to help share his vision for this Rotary year and the overall vision of Rotary.
There were several raffle prizes ranging from dinners, a pearl necklace, and two big screen TV’s. The highlights of the event were learning about the Rotary Club of Scarsdale’s partnership in Liberia to send a young man to medical school to become an doctor. We were introduced to their new Interact Club and their two Rotary Scholars. We also heard stories about the honorable New York State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, as told by her husband Mr. Amy Paulin. She shared her experience about moving to Scarsdale and how it became their home. She spoke about her successes in the New York State Assembly and per passions in helping her community. She availed herself to speak with me after and we talked about the “old neighborhood” in Brooklyn where she was raised. She told me a story about Barbara Streisand who went to school in Brooklyn as well.
We were honored to have been part of this special night and they capped the night off with a dance lesson and I was greeted by the next District Governor Elect Garrett Capobianco. We look forward to furthering our relationship with the Rotary Club of Scarsdale and the NY Rotary community at large.
