RCOH Sandwich Making 2

Helping Harlem – February 2020

The month of February our dedicated volunteers made a difference by teaming up with organizations to fight hunger and homelessness in Harlem. On Saturday February 8th The Rotary Club of Harlem coordinated a sandwich making event with roughly 50 volunteers from across NYC. We were honored to be hosted by our community partners at The PILLARS, a holistic health and recovery facility in Harlem. Sandwiches making materials were brought by our partners at One Sandwich at a Time and they helped us lead our amazing volunteers to make and package 1,250 sandwiches to deliver to shelters and food pantries locally. A local organization called Unity in Harlem donated 500 pair of socks they received from Bombas that we were able to send with the sandwiches to shelters such as Project Renewal and others. An amazing day of service that reinforces the phrase “Teamwork makes the Dream Work”!

On February 22nd The Rotary Club of Harlem participated in the 12th annual Don’t Walk By homeless outreach event! Hundreds of volunteers from around the city joined together to remind our homeless brothers and sisters that they are loved and not forgotten. Volunteers canvassed the streets and subway stations in Harlem to engage with homeless neighbors and invite them back to The Salvation Army Harlem Temple Corps. to receive vital services like; food, legal assistance, medical assistance, housing assistance, blankets, coats, haircuts, hygiene kits and more. It was a wonderful display of humanity as people who have never met were joined in the spirit of service to one another. We hope you will join us next year!
